It’s such a blessing to meet new friends doing this kind of work. Kaitlin + Drew feel like just that. Our conversations were not only deep and spiritual at times, but also ones full of humor and joy. I had to consciously set an intention to actually pay attention to my work or else I would not have come up with any good photos for them.
I love shooting these portrait sessions because in the right conditions, they can offer such a gift of humanity to couples embarking on a wedding and to me as well, as their photographer. They also can offer me a deeper understanding of who these people are at the core of their relationship. That’s a real gift considering I’ll be the one documenting the two of them expressing their love in ceremony and in celebration on their wedding day. One of the single greatest value-adds to a portrait session is having me meet you right at your home. It’s the foundational place of your story together and where I notice couples most being themselves. In this particular shoot, seeing Kaitlin + Drew in their home interacting with one another gave me a really good idea of how they might want their wedding photography approached: lots of candids, lot of fun while we shoot, but also recognizing the moments of stillness, romance and brilliant light and being present for it while I get to preserve it all on camera. Hope you enjoy these photos!
